ABC is working on a show inspired by the life of Selena Quintanilla

It’s not quite a show about the life of famed Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez, but it’s the next best thing.

An unnamed show (which has support from the Quintanilla family) is currently in development at ABC that revolves around a fictional pop star coming home to Texas after a family tragedy, the Dallas Morning News’ Guide Live reports.

The series is inspired by, but not based on, the life of Selena. The main character, Alex Guerra, comes home after a five-year absence to be with her Texas family and soon finds herself caught up in a love triangle while dealing with her family’s secrets, Guide Live reports.

“Scandal” writer Miguel Nolla and music producer Scooter Braun are also attached. The name of the actress who will play Alex has not been revealed.

Selena Quintanilla family members Abraham Quintanilla, Jr., and Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga are also producers on the show.
