This news might be a little harder to swallow than, say, a warm pretzel with mustard and a craft beer.

Austin bakery and taproom Easy Tiger is set to permanently close its downtown location after eight years at the East Sixth Street spot.

The business announced the closure in a Facebook post Friday, saying the "scrappy little bake shop and beer garden" had served as the spot "where we baked our first loaves of bread and poured our first craft beers." The post also promised plans to return to downtown Austin, saying "It’s not a matter of it, it’s when and how."

Austinites need not mourn all of Easy Tiger’s yeasty goodness, however. The bakery’s Linc location, which opened in late 2018, will remain open, but is currently under modified operations due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Easy Tiger is also still set to take over the shuttered South Lamar location of Red’s Porch, which will open for outdoor dining next month.

The landlord of Easy Tiger’s downtown location told the Austin Business Journal that there is an interested buyer for the space.
