Austin’s Home Slice Pizza announced Tuesday that its North Loop location has closed temporarily after an employee tested positive for COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.

On its Facebook page, Home Slice says the employee last worked on Sunday and tested positive on Tuesday. The employee is now quarantined and receiving care and all employees at the location are being tested.

"At the moment no other staff members are experiencing any symptoms and all working staff members at that location are being tested for COVID-19," according to the post.

The East 53rd Street location will remain temporarily closed while a "professional sanitation crew deep cleans and disinfects the restaurant. After following the preventative guidance of the CDC and local health officials, the store will reopen with the same diligent cleaning and safety protocols that were previously in place including no-contact curbside."

Gov. Greg Abbott announced April 27 that restaurants across the state would be allowed to reopen May 1 with 25% seating capacity. Many, like Home Slice, have not yet reopened dining rooms and are continuing with takeout service started when restaurant dining rooms were shut down in March because of the pandemic.
