Today is National Dog Day, but who says treating your four-legged friend has to be confined to one day?
Rover, an app for dog walking and pet sitting, recently released guides for the perfect "Dog's Day Out" in select cities, highlighting the best dog-friendly spots on a short route to bring a furry friend.
The "Dog's Day Out" 1.4-mile route in Austin includes stops at the Auditorium Shores dog park, the Ann & Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, and Banger's Sausage House & Beer Garden.
Pups can run unleashed within the semi-fenced section at the lakeside dog park (currently, pets should not go into the water itself due to a toxic algae bloom). Dogs and owners can get in touch with nature by taking a stroll (or jog) along the lake trail bordering the north and south shores of the water. Rainey Street, just steps away from the north shore of the trail, is home to the popular bar Banger's. Dog owners can even order a special sausage safe for pooches.
