The Austin Parks Foundation is hosting a free screening of the classic film "Caddyshack" for a special "Movies in the Park," event in August at the Lions Municipal Golf Course.
The event is in partnership with Save Muny and will begin on Friday, Aug. 16 at 5:30 p.m. The movie will start later in the evening at 8:30 p.m.
According to a press release from Austin Parks Foundation, the free event is intended for adults to celebrate back to school. Activities include a "Caddyshack" costume contest, blindfolded golf games and a Tito's VIP lounge.
Guests will be able to bring their own food and drinks, or buy from food trucks at the site. Blankets, chairs and leashed dogs are welcomed, but glass and Styrofoam are prohibited.
Movies in the Park is a series of free movies sponsored by Austin Parks Foundation and Alamo Drafthouse. Various films from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's will be shown at nine Austin parks throughout the year.
This free screening is in addition movie schedule released by Austin Parks Foundation this year.
Save Muny is an organization that has worked to preserve the Lions Municipal Golf Course since 1973, according to the press release.
The golf course is listed on the National Register of Historical Sites because it was the first golf course in the South to become integrated. Earlier this year, a bill established the Lions Municipal Golf Course as part of the Save Muny Historical District, which would help preserve the golf course and communities around it.
