Kacey Musgraves had a simple request for the Coachella crowd.
The Grammy award-winning country singer performed songs from her album “Golden Hour” Friday during the Coachella festival in California. While singing “Velvet Elvis,” the Texas native asked the festival attendees to try a call-and-response.
"Let's see if Cali can bring the 'yee-haw' to me," Musgraves said. "So when I say, 'yee,' you say, 'haw.'"
The country singer then yells “yee,” followed by an enthusiastic “haw” from the crowd. She then does it again. Everything is going smoothly so far.
Then, as if she is testing the audience, Musgraves repeats the rules and then skips a beat. She gestures to the crowd with her microphone, but doesn’t say “yee” beforehand. But despite repeating the rules, the crowd still mistakenly yells “haw.”
This results in Musgraves’ now-viral reaction.
"I didn't say (expletive) 'yee!'" Musgraves said to the audience.
The clip of the failed call-and-response went viral on Twitter over the weekend and was re-posted by Musgraves and her fans. Musgraves’ tweet, with the caption “I didn’t say-,” received more than 70,000 retweets and more than 370,000 likes as of Monday afternoon.
