It's a relatively new project, but already Belyeu has hit some of the most popular haunted spots. Belyeu wrote on his blog that the inspiration from the podcast came from reading an article in Austin360 about Spider House (and the tattoo shop next door) being haunted, and that's exactly what his first episode was about. Over the course of 2018, he's covered other Austin favorites like The Tavern and The Clay Pit, and he even hit the road to New Braunfels to investigate the home of a couple who were "hearing and seeing things they could not explain." For the final episode of season one, he returned to the tattoo shop from the first episode to explore more of "the many spirits haunting the Spider House grounds."
According to CultureMap Austin, Belyeu's love for the supernatural came from family stories growing up in South Texas (which he talks a bit about in a podcast episode). He went on to co-found the Occult Sciences Society, a paranormal research team, with friend Alexis Arredondo in 2010. Arredondo now works with Belyeu as an associate producer and assistant editor on the podcast.
Belyeu is presenting a night of live ghost stories at the Stateside Theatre at the Paramount at 9 p.m. on Halloween night, followed by a screening of The Amityville Horror. CultureMap reports the podcast will return for a second season in 2019.
