Meet your new best friend at this free ‘Seis de Mayo’ adoption event

Who needs drinks on Cinco de Mayo when you can get pet cuddles from a new furry friend this weekend?

The Austin Animal Center will offer free pet adoptions May 6 as part of its “Seis de Mayo” adoption event.

“Whether you're looking to add to your family or just recharge after a ruff night, come get some pet therapy with us,” the event listing states.

In addition to the free pet adoptions, the shelter will host activities including a piñata filled with dog treats and paper flower making. A “recreation” of the Battle of Puebla will begin at 1 p.m. and prospective adopters are encouraged to watch the dogs interact in this playgroup.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and all pets who have lived at the center 30 days or longer will go home with a free crate and bag of food.
