Making a Hurricane Harvey Welcome Kit? Here’s a checklist

The Austin Disaster Relief Network needs 6000 survivor welcome kits for Hurricane Harvey evacuees who will be sheltering in Austin.

On Wednesday, Mayor Steve Adler released a video demonstrating how to put the kit together.

“We have company coming. We have some guests,” he said. “So there are chores we need to do so we can welcome folks the way they deserve to be welcomed into our city.”

As of Friday morning, the ADRN had already received 600 welcome kits. Adler’s message to Austinites? “Keep it up.”

HOW TO HELP: Austin Volunteers, donations needed for Harvey relief

Like many of our fellow Austinites, Statesman staffers are answering the call, pooling resources and planning to build kits this weekend. To involve the little ones in our lives, we created this fun printable checklist to take along to the store

Also, the Austin Animal Center still needs kennels and used bedding; donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 7201 Levander Loop, Austin, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. daily.
