International beard and moustache competition heading to Austin

Austin is usually considered facial hair-friendly, but come Labor Day weekend, the city will get a little hairier.

Lads and, yes, ladies sporting facial hair will gather Sept. 1-3 for the 2017 Remington Beard Boss World Beard and Moustache Championships, a three-day contest hosted by the Austin Facial Hair Club.

According to the event schedule, entrants can compete in moustache, partial beard, full beard, “craft/fantasy” and freestyle categories. This year, the competition will also hold its first “Whiskerina” categories for women.

The Long Center for the Performing Arts will host the event this year, with 3-day wristbands costing $75 for competitors and $20 for spectators, before fees. According to the ticket site, competitors will receive a “swag bag, drink tickets and other hairy goodies to make your competition weekend on point.” Single day tickets will be available and children 12 years and under may attend for free.

Organizers expect this year’s event to draw the largest crowd to date, with local food, live music and family-friendly activities.
