Still looking for that perfect Father’s Day gift?
Twin Liquors at the Hill Country Galleria may have it — if you’re willing to spend a couple hundred bucks, that is. The liquor store is raffling off the opportunity for one lucky customer to buy a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 23 Year Bourbon for $295.
No, your eyes did not deceive you. That much for one bottle of bourbon?!?, you’re probably thinking. But that’s actually a steal. The highly sought-after, very hard-to-find 23-year-old version of Pappy Van Winkle is often sold for up to $3,000. Average retail prices tend to put it just a bit lower than that but in the thousands of dollars nonetheless — far higher than the Van Winkle website actually prices it at.
Other Pappy and Van Winkle bourbons, because they’re aged for far less time, don’t cost as much. Many whiskey aficionados consider the Pappy brand to be so esteemed because it’s not easy to age bourbon for such a large chunk of time without the whiskey taking on too many flavor notes from the wood.
Whether it’s worth practically a whole month’s rent — or the special raffle price Twin Liquors is offering it at — is for you to decide.
If the cost doesn’t scare you off, make sure you’re in the store at 12528 Texas 71, Bee Cave, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today (June 13) for the chance to win. And even if nearly $300 still seems too much to spend on a bottle of booze, the Great Bourbon Pop-Up raffle will also be raffling off other rare but more accessible whiskeys, like EH Taylor Seasoned Wood and Thomas Handy Rye.
The raffle is just in time for National Bourbon Day tomorrow, honoring America’s beloved native spirit. Twin Liquors is celebrating with a whole host of Whiskey Days events this month, which you can keep track of at facebook.com/TwinLiquorsFan.
