Whole Foods to shutter downtown culinary center

Whole Foods Market will close down its culinary center downtown this fall.

The Lamar Culinary Center, which is home to public cooking classes and the grocer’s vast catering program, is tucked into the northeast corner of the block that houses the flagship store downtown, a space that they’ve outgrown since opening eight years ago.

In 2015, the catering team will move to a new, as-yet-unannounced location, but instead of moving the culinary center or opening a new one, the five area Whole Foods stores will offer more hands-on and demonstration cooking classes in their individual stores. “At this time, there are no finalized plans for the future use of the (downtown) space,” says store rep Rachel Malish. The culinary center will continue to host classes through the end of October.
