A Hill Country winemaker is making waves on ABC’s “The Taste,” a reality food show featuring judge/mentors Marcus Samuelsson, Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson and Ludo Lefebvre that airs at 7 p.m. Thursdays.

Don Pullum had auditioned for other food shows, but it wasn’t until last summer that he caught the eye of casting producers with “The Taste,” whose second season premiered earlier this month. Pullum is one of 16 contestants, who are divided into four teams. His team, led by New York chef Samuelsson, will compete against the teams led by the other celebrity chefs.

For many years, Pullum has been growing his own grapes and making wines for wineries including Sandstone Cellars Winery and Pontotoc Vineyard Winery, but this year, he has plans to open his own place, Akashic Vineyard Winery, in Pontotoc.

You can follow Pullum on Twitter @akashicvineyard for updates on both the show and the vineyard.
