The Bacon Takedown has been a highlight of South by Southwest Interactive since 2010, but this year, founder Matt Timms is putting a new spin on the contest.

Yesterday, he announced that this year’s competition with be a Mac and Cheeze Takedown from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Shangri-La , 1016 E. Sixth St.

Timms, whose most recent Austin contest was a Cookie Takedown in Christmas, says that local cooks can sign up to compete by emailing him at chilitakedown@gmail.com.

You can find out more and buy tickets ($15) at thetakedowns.com. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Women’s Education Project.

For those of you keeping track of these kinds of things, it looks like The Food Experiments, another New York-based cooking competition, will not be returning to Austin for SXSW this year. For three years, the contests went head-to-head, sometimes taking place on the same day of the interactive conference.
