The Central Texas Food Bank has been working overtime during the past four months.

Central Texas’ largest hunger-relief organization has been hosting large food drives to distribute food to thousands of families, and the non-profit recently announced the July pick-up days. The food bank typically distributes food primarily through 300 partner agencies in a 21-county region, but during the coronavirus, it started hosting massive drive-through pick-up sites.

In July, the Central Texas Food Bank is hosting five such food distribution events. All of them take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. No walk-ups are allowed, and clients are asked to make space in your trunk before arriving at the event. There is no need to sign up to pick up food on one of these days.

A typical box includes assorted produce, at least one gallon of milk, 8 to 20 pounds of protein, including chicken or pork products, a box of shelf-stable items.

Here are the upcoming distribution dates:

Thursday, July 9

Nelson Field, 7105 Berkman Drive

Saturday, July 11

Smile Direct Facility (across from Home Depot), 300 Vista Ridge Drive in Kyle

Thursday, July 16

Toney Burger Stadium, 3200 Jones Road (enter from the north side of the facility from the U.S. 290 frontage road)

Thursday, July 23

Del Valle High School, 5201 Ross Road in Del Valle

Saturday, July 25

If you would like to volunteer to help distribute food at one of these events, go to centraltexasfoodbank.org and click on "Volunteer" to sign up. Volunteers proficient in Spanish are also needed for client intake. To sign up for this role, email volunteer@centraltexasfoodbank.org.

"We also ask that you attend this event only if you are facing true food insecurity since our resources are stretched to the limit," the organization said. "We’ve seen demand for our services skyrocket recently, severely straining our resources. So if you’re able to help, we need monetary donations. Please donate online."
