The Whataburger vs. In-N-Out debate is over — at least according to USA Today’s "Best Regional Fast Food" list.

Texas’ favorite ranked third on the list, two spots above No. 5, California’s In-N-Out.

It’s hard to tire of the common showdown, but if you’re looking instead for a local contender, that really holds its weight in this beef, we have some options:

• Burger Tex (5420 Airport Blvd.): Located in North Austin, Burger Tex has been serving Austinites for more than 40 years. In addition to burgers, they serve sides like onions, fried mushrooms and fried okra.

• Dan’s Hamburgers (multiple locations): This family-owned and operated Austin classic has been serving burgers since 1973.

• Hopdoddy Burger Bar (multiple locations): The Austin born burger joint has won numerous awards including "The Best Burgers in America" by Food & Wine and received the No. 1 spot two years in a row on Business Insider’s list of "The 50 best burger joints in America."

• Mighty Fine (multiple locations): The Austin based company has been awarded nationally with the Malcom Baldrige Quality Award — the nation’s highest presidential honor for performance excellence.

• P. Terry’s (multiple locations): Founded in 2005 by Patrick Terry and his wife, Kathy Terry, this burger restaurant uses all-natural beef and Idaho Burbank potatoes for their fries.

• Top Notch (7525 Burnet Rd.): If you’re looking for old-school drive-in vibes, then look no further than Top Notch. The burger joint first opened in 1971 and was featued in the movie, "Dazed and Confused."
