An orange in the stocking. A gingerbread house. A fruitcake from Collin Street Bakery. Lasagna on Christmas Eve.

This holiday season we are gathering stories from readers about what it wouldn’t be Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s, Kwanzaa or a solstice celebration without.

A Christmas in my house isn’t complete without orange-glazed rolls inspired by my grandmother, cheese grits at Christmas breakfast and at least one feast of homemade Springfield-style cashew chicken, a relatively new tradition we started a few years ago.

I’d love to hear about the food-related rituals you share with your family or that you remember from when you were young. Send me an email at abroyles@statesman.com. No detail is too small. If you happened to have any photos, especially from a bygone era, I’d love to see those, too. We will publish a selection in print and online during the holiday season.
