An orange in the stocking. A gingerbread house. A fruitcake from Collin Street Bakery. Lasagna on Christmas Eve.

This holiday season we are gathering stories from readers about what it wouldn’t be Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s, Kwanzaa or a solstice celebration without.

A Christmas in my house isn’t complete without orange-glazed rolls inspired by my grandmother, cheese grits at Christmas breakfast and at least one feast of homemade Springfield-style cashew chicken, a relatively new tradition we started a few years ago.

I’d love to hear about the food-related rituals you share with your family or that you remember from when you were young. Send me an email at No detail is too small. If you happened to have any photos, especially from a bygone era, I’d love to see those, too. We will publish a selection in print and online during the holiday season.
