This isn’t Phil Mickelson’s golf course.
Nine East Austin bars will be hosting an 18-hole miniature roving golf course this weekend, as part of a benefit for two local animal organizations: Love-A-Bull and Ay Chihuahua Rescue. The East Side Mini Open is an event from the East Side Mini Open Roving Golf Association.
Participating watering holes on Feb. 10 are Yellow Jacket Social Club, where the day will start, as well as Historic Scoot Inn, the White Horse, the Liberty, the Grackle, Kitty Cohen's, Hops and Grain, Hard Luck Lounge and Kinda Tropical, where the closing ceremony will take place.
Participating golfers will go against each other in teams of two to try and win the tournament. But they’re not the only ones competing. Each venue will create their own putting greens in the hopes of having “the most unique hole,” according to the event’s Facebook page. The winners of these contests, as well as of who has the most creative and functional handmade putters, will be announced at Kinda Tropical.
Official putt-putt gear will be provided, although participants are welcome to bring their own putters as well. You can play out the course in any order, but starting tee time is at 11 a.m. at Yellow Jacket at 1704 E. Fifth St.
Players can pay $10 to golf; the tickets include a wristband that gains you access to specials at each venue, a map, score card and access to all greens. You can get tickets on Eventbrite or in person at Yellow Jacket. Tickets won’t be available the day of, so get them soon.
