Former University of Texas and NFL football star Ricky Williams is putting down the football and picking up the yoga mat to kick off the Red River Showdown — the Texas-Oklahoma game that has become one of UT’s biggest rivalry match-ups.
Williams, a legendary running back and also a certified yoga instructor (who knew?!), will lead the Oklahoma Suks Beer Yoga session on Oct. 8, less than a week before the UT-OU game. He is teaming up with Independence Brewing for the yoga class, where the brewery will have burnt-orange cans of its Oklahoma Suks beer to give to attendees.
Better act fast if you want tickets to Williams’ class on the rooftop of the flagship Whole Foods in downtown Austin: Only 100 spots are available at $35 each. The tickets include the Oklahoma Suks beer and a post-yoga meet-and-greet with Williams.
Independence Brewing has been producing Oklahoma Suks during the UT football season since 2006. (The cans are actually the repackaged Austin Amber brew, one of the brewery’s most popular beers.)
When not leading yoga classes, Williams is a football analyst for ESPN's Longhorn Network.
The yoga class he’s leading will help “to prepare fans’ mind, body and team spirit for (the Oct. 14) big game in Dallas,” according to the Eventbrite page where you can purchase the tickets. There’s another Williams-led class on Oct. 13 in Dallas, on the eve of the big game in the city where it’s regularly held.
Whole Foods is located at 525 N. Lamar Blvd. The yoga class is for people 21 and up. For more information, visit facebook.com/independencebrewing.
