As a result of the coronavirus pandemic and in an effort to reduce crowding, Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department announced Monday that parking access will be decreased at downtown parks and a clockwise, one-way traffic pattern will be implemented on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, effective immediately.

Parks within the bounds of MoPac, Barton Springs Road, Interstate-35 and 15th Street will all have reduced parking, PARD said. Signage, gate closures, barricades and regular patrols will be used to enforce the limited parking. The changes began Monday, with a full transition expected by Friday.

The measures are intended to discourage crowding and increase physical distancing by trail and park users. Parks and trails were previously closed over Easter weekend but re-opened Monday morning at sunrise.

The Trail Foundation is still encouraging people to stay home and to use social distancing guidelines if they do use the trail.
