Update: Vulcan Video announced March 22 via Instagram that it will be temporarily closing until further notice effective March 24. "Customers can rent via phone and curbside pickup until 9 p.m. March 23. Dropbox will remain open 24/7 for returns."

Austin remains one of the best cities in the country for access to well-stocked, old-school video stores. One, you can still walk inside. The other, you cannot, but you can still get videos.

Vulcan Video (4411 Russell Drive) announced Tuesday in an Instagram post that while the store remains open for business, the building isn’t. Here’s how they’re handling rentals for now, a sign on their door reads:

"Call to ask about movies and place and order (512-326-2629). Pay over the phone with credit or debit card. Call when you arrive and we will bring your movies and receipt to your car. Thanks for supporting local video stores!!!!"

Well, you’re welcome.

Vulcan added a few other notes in the comments:

"Until further notice we will be closing the store at 9 p.m. Old movies are now 10-day rentals. New releases are now five-day rentals. You can rent up to 15 movies at a time. The outdoor drop box is to remain open all day. All movies are being wiped down with disinfectant as returned and rented out."

As of Tuesday, I Luv Video (aka I Heart Video, 4803 Airport Blvd.) was still open to foot traffic and operating normally (though they did cancel Tuesday evening’s traditional "free beer Tuesday").
