The hospitality industry in Austin is an extended family that always seems to rally around its members in times of crisis. The murder of longtime Freebirds World Burrito’s South Austin kitchen manager Jonathan Aguilar, a 13-year veteran of the restaurant who was killed in a random act of violence two weeks ago, shook the community, including the owners of Via 313.
Via 313 co-founder Brandon Hunt worked with Aguilar before he and his brother, Zane, opened their first Detroit-style pizza trailer in Austin, and this week the brothers and their popular pizza restaurant are giving back.
Via 313 will donate 10 percent of Thursday’s proceeds to Aguilar’s widow and son. All Via 313 locations, including the two trailers, will participate.
Two GoFundMe pages for Jonathan’s wife and son have been established, both of which have more than doubled their intended goals.
