We know this is now the hardest time of winter break. All the festivities are done and you might be looking for something new to do with the kids until they head back to school next week.
Here are a few suggestions of things to see in and around Austin or events that are still going on.
If you haven’t been to one of these, this is a great time. Some of them also have events going on as well.
Bullock Texas State History Museum. The museum got an upgrade of its standard exhibits last year. If you haven’t checked it out, this is a great week to do it. Free First Sunday. This month’s theme is "stylish." Sing and dance to Groundwork Music Project, make scented sachets and practice sewing with crafts by iKids U, explore fashion and design with the Emma S. Thinkery. Buy your admission tickets in advance online for this museum to make sure that the museum is not overcapacity. Cupcake Geology. For ages 4 and up. Practice geology in pastry and learn about Earth’s core. 11 a.m., 1 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. Friday-Sunday. $8. Baby Bloomers. 9 a.m. Monday and Saturday. Ages birth to 3. This month the theme is Light It Up. Special gueston Saturday: Mi Casa Es Tu Casa introduction to French and Spanish. $5. Little Thinkers Club. Amazing Magnetism. Wildflower Center. Even though things are not exactly in bloom, it’s a great time to walk through the gardens, especially the family garden. Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, 4801 La Crosse Ave. wildflower.org
Contemporary Austin. There is a downtown museum as well as the outdoor museum at Laguna Gloria. Pick your pleasure depending on your kids’ ages and whether or not you need to burn some energy.
