The annual Formula 1 United States Grand Prix brought a lot of action to Circuit of the Americas over the weekend, with plenty of music to supplement the auto-racing main event. Daily headliners were Imagine Dragons, Pink and Kool & the Gang, while many local bands performed on stages around the grounds.


But Austin favorites Shinyribs got perhaps the highest-profile slot. Leader Kevin Russell, joined by backing singers Alice Spencer and Kelley Mickwee, sang the national anthem to an ABC live television audience that numbered in the millions.

The full eight-piece swamp-soul outfit has two area appearances coming up. They’re at the historic Old Coupland Inn & Dance Hall in the small town of Coupland about 30 miles northeast of Austin on Friday, Nov. 8. And they’ll play the deep south Austin hot spot Sam’s Town Point on Saturday, Nov. 16.
