It has been a long run for Changos, the campus-area taqueria run by the owners of Manuel’s since 1998. The taqueria, a low-key solid option for tacos and burritos for more than two decades, will close its sole remaining location at 3023 Guadalupe St. on November 14. Changos previously operated a taqueria in the space where Torchy’s Tacos sits on South Lamar Boulevard. The owners have put the property on the market for $1.65 million and plan on using the proceeds to invest in other parts of their business.
"We’ve built a reputation for consistency and quality. Now it’s time to capitalize on that success and expand our brands. One of the things we are considering is working with area grocery stores to offer ready-made packaged foods, which people can take home and eat. Although it was a difficult decision to make, selling the real estate on Guadalupe will free-up the resources needed to pursue new projects," co-owner Jennifer McNevin said in an email.
Greg Koury opened the original Manuel’s on Congress Avenue in 1984 and expanded to include a Great Hills location in 1998, where the restaurant group has extended its lease through 2025.
As a thank you to its regular customers, Changos will offer "Free Queso" with equal purchase in November.
