Few working chefs in Austin have the track record of Charles Mayes. The chef helmed Mother’s Cafe, Treaty Oak Cafe and Maņana Grille before opening Cafe Josie at the edge of Clarksville in 1997.

Last year he teamed with partners that included The Brick Oven owner Jay McBride to open Cielo Bistro Mexico at 7032 Wood Hollow Drive in Northwest Austin.

The modern Mexican restaurant lasted about a year but Mayes announced yesterday on Facebook that he was closing Cielo.

“To all our friends, old and new, we are grateful for the love and support you have demonstrated for Cielo Bistro Mexico,” Mayes wrote in the post. “At this time, we must tell you that we have closed. We are all part of an amazing community, so please believe we appreciate you!”
