"Hands up, come on!" Patrice Pike exhorted the crowd as Pike & Sutton launched into their song "Hands Up" on the T-Mobile Stage at the Austin City Limits Music Festival on Friday afternoon. That's a challenge when it's 49 degrees with a bone-chilling wind, and everyone's inclined to keep teir hands in their pockets.

But the hundreds who gathered to cheer on these hometown favorites lifted their hands high in support. Pike and guitarist Wayne Sutton, her bandmate since the 1990s heyday of Sister 7, rewarded them with another solid roots-rockin' tune in a set full of them. The duo has written a full album's worth of new material that's due out early next year, which they'll follow up with touring that will include a slot at Lollapalooza's South America festival in 2020.

We caught up with Pike and Sutton in our Austin360 media tent at the festival after their set. We talked about why their new project uses their own names rather than the Sister 7 name, memories from ACL Fest past, and Pike's long-running Saxon Pub residency. Check it out here:
