Remember how Lizzo drew tens of thousands of fans to the Miller Lite stage for her spectacular and spectacularly popular 7 p.m. set last Sunday (Oct. 6) at the Austin City Limits Music Festival? Here is a reminder if you were under a rock.
On Oct. 13, aka the Sunday of the festival’s second weekend, ACL Fest will broadcast Lizzo’s performance on the Honda stage screens after Third Eye Blind's 6 p.m. set and before Robyn headlines at 8 p.m. (Cardi B played the 8 p.m. Honda slot the first weekend.)
Streaming a performance from an act on a smaller stage onto a headlining stage's screens is a first for the fest.
“This will allow people who want to see Lizzo to spread out a little, since they are in the same area of the park,” ACL Fest booker Amy Corbin said Thursday. “We’re also going to improve the lighting out there a little bit.”
Regarding the idea that Lizzo could simply be moved to a larger stage, Corbin added that stage and schedule placement is part of the final confirmation of an artist’s contract. “If an artist has significant production (lights, stage settings, projections, etc.),” Corbin said, “that also has to be factored into how the stage is used.”
