It is unlikely that pop artist Finneas will ever overshadow his famous sister, Billie Eilish, but there’s no doubt that the fame and recognition he’s gained so far is well-earned. At the Miller Lite Stage on day 2 of ACL Fest, Finneas put on a sleek, professional and charming performance to an early-afternoon crowd that showered him with love.

Shiny shoes, slick shades and a nice cream suit didn’t hurt matters, but the reality is Finneas is darn good at what he does. His set of sweet, sharp piano pop tunes -- many of which he was playing live for the first time -- was a perfect soundtrack to start the day, and the radio friendly sheen of tracks like “I Lost a Friend,” “New Girl” and “Claudia” still couldn’t hide how clever and precise Finneas’ lyrics are.

The chorus to “New Girl” in particular is almost filthily satisfying: “I wanna scratch your surface/ I wanna feel your grooves/ I wanna be your needle/ I wanna lick your wound.” “I Don’t Miss You At All” was another real standout, featuring Finneas listing all the things he clearly *doesn’t* miss about an ex, including her “silly French accent.”

Finneas is seductive and knows it, and he’s a killer songwriter and he knows it, and on a festival stage, it’s hard to ask for more. I’m not much of a fan girl, but when he crooned on “Let’s Fall in Love for the Night” “You won't stay with me, I know’ But you can have your way with me 'til you go,” I admit I swooned a little.
