A new cafe merging fresh dining and cycling cultures opened today on South Congress Avenue. The Meteor, which originated in Little Rock, was founded by Chris St. Peter and Doug Zell, Intelligentsia Coffee founder and Austin resident.

“Doug and Chris are both avid cyclists and close friends, largely through their shared love of the sport,” the Meteor’s website reads “Before founding The Meteor, Doug and Chris often wondered why there were a dearth of beautiful retail environments that combined truly great coffee and bikes -- two cultures that compliment each other -- so they started a concept of their own: The Meteor.”

The cafe at 2110 S. Congress Ave. is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, serving pastries, fancy toasts and breakfast burritos; soups, salads and sandwiches at lunch; and Roman-style pizzas at dinner. The Meteor also exclusively serves Intelligentsia Coffee products.

The adjacent cycling shop sells bicycles, gear and soft goods and is also open daily.

The Meteor cafe is open 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday-Sunday.
