If done right, pairing food with alcoholic beverages like wine and beer makes the course even better than the sum of its parts. A drink with crisp acidity, for instance, such as a rosé or a pilsner, can cut through fatty foods like pork ribs, making them feel less rich and heavy.
Find out for yourself how booze and food can influence each other at one of the best pairing events in the Austin area — Jester King Brewery’s annual Funk ’n’ Sour Fest.
The night matching up some of the city’s top restaurants with mostly local beers, wines and ciders returns on Oct. 24. Tickets are on sale now and likely won’t last long, as the event has been known to sell out in the past. As in previous years, one restaurant will be teamed up with one beverage purveyor to come up with two food and drink pairings each. New this year? There are three more food and beverage teams than there were last year.
Restaurants include InterStellar BBQ, Kemuri Tatsu-ya and the Brewer’s Table, and they will be paired up with the likes of Austin’s Oddwood Ales, Oklahoma’s American Solera and Cedar Park’s Red Horn Coffee House & Brewing Co.
Tickets are $100, and they allow you to try the pairings as many times as you’d like under string lights and live oaks at the Jester King property, instrumental music playing in the background. You’ll also receive a souvenir 2019 Funk ‘n’ Sour Fest glass.
Here’s the full list of pairing teams — their specific dishes and drinks will be announced at a later date.
