People stuck in traffic on MoPac have a fresh new temptation to lure them from the madness and the people of West Austin are now within arm's reach of some quality seafood. Jack Gilmore, owner of Jack Allen's Kitchen, has opened his Salt Traders Coastal Cooking at 1101 S. MoPac, just south of Zilker Park on the northbound feeder road of MoPac. This is the second location of the seafood restaurant Gilmore originally opened in Round Rock in 2016.

Salt Traders pulls primarily from the Gulf of Mexico and East Coast, while staying local for most produce and legged proteins, serving oysters, ceviche, fish tacos and wood-fired grilled tuna steak and salmon.

The new location is currently open only for dinner, beginning at 4 p.m. daily, with plans to expand to lunch in the coming weeks.

Gilmore spent 20 years helming the once-trendy Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill as that group’s corporate chef before he and fellow Z’Tejas alumnus Tom Kamm opened the first Jack Allen’s Kitchen in Oak Hill in 2009.
