Here's what's happening this week in the Live Music Capital of the World.

OUR TOP PICKS

Friday: C.J. Chenier birthday bash at Antone's. The Chenier family goes way back with Austin's home of the blues — all the way to its opening night in 1975, when C.J.'s father, Clifton Chenier, played the very first show at the club's original location. C.J., an accordion master who carried on the zydeco tradition his father established, helped to ringing the club's new digs when Antone's reopened a few years ago. He'll celebrate his birthday (he'll turn 62 at midnight) with his Red Hot Louisiana Band in a bash also includes Warren Storm, Jivin’ Gene and Yvette Landry. $18-$20. 8 p.m. 305 E. Fifth St. antonesnightclub.com. — P.B.

Saturday: Calexico, Iron & Wine at Stubb’s outdoor. Existing somewhere along the vast and fertile territory between Americana and indie realms, Arizona’s Calexico and former Austinite Sam Beam’s Iron & Wine have created memorable albums separate from each other for more than two decades. Their paths first crossed on record with an EP in 2005; they teamed up again for the full-lenth “Years to Burn,” released in June on Sub Pop. Natalie Prass opens. $40-$42. 7 p.m. doors. (Austin duo Little Mazarn plays an after-show set on the Stubb’s indoor stage at 10:30 p.m.; $6, or free to those attending the outdoor show.) 801 Red River St. stubbsaustin.com. — P.B.

Saturday: Healing Ain’t a Luxury at Native Hostel ballroom. This year for his birthday, Riders Against the Storm's Jonathan "Chaka" Mahone is launching a new initiative to help “people of color who are experiencing short-term life crisis.” Through an organization called DAWA, an acronym for Diversity Awareness and Wellness in Action, he plans to provide gap funds to musicians, artists, social workers, teachers, healing practitioners and service industry workers in need. The launch party features a party-rocking lineup of top Austin DJs, with Chicken George, Chorizo Funk, Kay Cali and Zetroc all taking turns on the wheels. $15. 8 p.m. 807 E. Fourth St. dawaheals.org — D.S.S.

Monday: Steel Mondays with Herb Steiner at Sam’s Town Point. Our Austin360 Residency of the Month for September wraps up a month of five Mondays with one of Austin’s most accomplished pedal steel aces. Steiner got his start out west, playing in Linda Ronstadt’s Stone Poneys before moving to Austin and becoming a linchpin in city’s the cosmic cowboy/outlaw country scene of the 1970s. (That’s him on Jerry Jeff Walker’s iconic “Viva Terlingua” album, for starters.) $5. 7 p.m. 2115 Allred Drive. samstownpointatx.com. — P.B.

Wednesday: The Next Waltz Live Tour with Willis Alan Ramsey, Bruce Robison, Carrie Rodriguez, John Fullbright at Stateside at the Paramount. Established primarily as a recording outlet for Texas artists reinterpreting classic material at Robison’s Bunker studio in Lockhart, the Next Waltz recently brought in Ramsey to record one of his new songs, “Mockingbird Blues.” That led to this four-city Texas tour that begins in Austin and also includes two other extraordinarily talented singer-songwriters: Austin fiddler Carrie Rodriguez and Oklahoma’s John Fullbright. Arrive early for an opening set from Jamie Lin Wilson. $49.50. 8 p.m. 719 Congress Ave. austintheatre.org. — P.B.

Thursday: ACL Fest Late Night Shows. Austin City Limits Festival kicks off on Oct. 4, but you can start festing early with official late-night shows from ACL artists. Gary Clark Jr., torchbearer for Austin blues, kicks off a two-night stand at Stubb’s BBQ with rapidly rising artist Jackie Venson along for the ride ($49.50, 7 p.m. 801 Red River St.). Over at Emo’s, EDM duo Hippie Sabotage takes the stage along with Sebastian Paul ($30, 8 p.m. 2015 E. Riverside Dr.). And if you like it loud, L.A. punks Fidlar wreck shop with local outfit Xetas at the Scoot Inn ($25, 6:30 p.m. doors, 1308 E. Fourth St.). aclfestival.com/late-night-shows — D.S.S.
