An injury to frontman Luke Pritchard has caused British indie-rockers the Kooks to cancel their appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, along with other upcoming dates in the United States and Mexico.

ACL Fest announced the cancellation in a social media post that stated, in part: "Unfortunately, the Kooks have been forced to cancel their forthcoming shows in the US and Mexico, including ACL Fest. This is due to Luke being diagnosed with a spinal injury. He has been told by doctors that he cannot perform while he undergoes intense physiotherapy." The post included a video statement from Pritchard explaining that he had "a perforated disc in my spine" and risked long-term damage if he went forward with plans for the tour.

The Kooks had been scheduled for a 7 p.m. set on Saturday, Oct. 5. They were booked for weekend one only. The band played an Austin show earlier this year on the outdoor stage at Stubb's in support of 2018's "Let's Go Sunshine," their fifth album. The group became stars in their home country with their 2006 debut album "Inside In/Inside Out."
