Here's what's happening in the Live Music Capital of the World this week.

OUR TOP PICKS

Friday: Black Fret Summer Sessions at Long Center Lawn & Terrace. The third and final installment of this new series presented by the local music patronage organization features four Austin acts with distinctly different musical styles. Jam to the blues grooves of the Peterson Brothers Band, radiate in the tuneful sounds of singer-songwriter Suzanna Choffel, rock out with Billy King & the Bad Bad Bad and get a hot plate of soul and funk from Tomar & the FCs. Free. 6 p.m. 701 W. Riverside Drive. thelongcenter.org. — P.B.

Friday: Raphael Saadiq at Mohawk outdoor. Boasting a storied career that began as the lead singer and bassist in his multi-platinum-selling family band, Tony! Toni! Toné!, and includes high-profile collabs with the likes of D’Angelo and Solange Knowles, Saadiq’s success overshadows the personal tragedy that informed his early life. As a child, he lost four siblings, two to violence and another two (including his brother Jimmy Lee, who shares a name with Saadiq’s new album), to drug addiction. On “Jimmy Lee,” Saadiq delves into the losses and the broader social context around them. The result is a brilliant personal lament woven with a potent political outcry. Austin band Magna Carda opens. $35. 8 p.m. 912 Red River St. mohawkaustin.com. — D.S.S.

Friday: Radney Foster & Kim Richey at 04 Center. Native Texan Foster and Ohioan Richey have been among Nashville’s best tunesmiths for decades, both as writers or co-writers for other artists’ hits and on material they’ve released on their own solo records. They’re engaging singers, as well, which should make this team-up performance a special treat for fans of both mainstream country and left-of-center Americana. $24-$45. 8 p.m. 2701 S. Lamar Bvd. 04center.com. — P.B.

Friday-Saturday: Texas Gypsy Fire at the Cactus Cafe. The Romani people left the Indian subcontinent more 1,500 years ago, fanning out across Europe and, later, the Americas. The Romani Archives, housed at UT, is the largest collection of items documenting Romani culture in the world. With this show, international folk artist Oliver Rajamani aims to raise awareness about Austin’s Romani community and the archives. He is joined on the bill by steel guitarist Cindy Cashdollar, the former Austinite whose resume includes work with Bob Dylan and Van Morrison. $22 in advance, $30 at the door. 8 p.m. 2247 Guadalupe St. cactuscafe.org. — D.S.S.

Saturday: Safer Venues Fest in the Red River Cultural District. Molly Burch, Bourgeois Mystics and Christelle Bofale are among the artists who will play a series of individually ticketed shows at Cheer Up Charlies, Scratch House, Empire Control Room, Mohawk indoor, Barracuda and Swan Dive in the inaugural year of the single-day minifestival. The event is dedicated to raising awareness around safety issues — such as sexual misconduct and harassment — that artists, venue employees and music fans experience at or on the way to shows in the district. The fest will also aim to forge connections among people looking to combat those issues and highlight a new venue staff training program administered by the SIMS Foundation. A portion of the proceeds from each show will benefit SIMS. See the event Facebook page for details. — D.S.S.

Tuesday: The National, Alvvays at Austin360 Amphitheater. Two decades and eight albums into a slow-build career that has seen them rise from up-and-coming club act to arena headliners, Brooklyn band the National brins the tour for its new album, “I Am Easy to Find,” to the biggest venue in Austin they’ve played to date. No small bonus is opening act Alvvays, the Canadian indie-pop sensation fronted by Molly Rankin who’ve become an Austin favorite through many South by Southwest and ACL Fest appearances. $37-$79. 7 p.m. 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd. austin360amphitheater.com. — P.B.

Thursday: Tinariwen at Paramount Theatre. Exiled from their native Mali due to political upheaval, the desert-blues ensemble carries a message of resilience and hope framed around the world. The Austin date kicks off the North American leg of their 2019 tour. $35. 8 p.m. 713 Congress Ave. austintheatre.org. — D.S.S.
