The editors at Southern Living are ready for arguments. The magazine recently released its list of the Top 50 barbecue joints in the South, a region in which they place Texas … and Missouri. Austin landed three entrants in the Top 50, all three of which can be found in the Top Five of our Austin360 Dining Guide. They are Micklethwait Craft Meats (#39), Valentina’s Tex-Mex BBQ (#19), and Franklin Barbecue (#7). Former Austinite John Lewis, who operates Lewis Barbecue in South Carolina, came in at number five.
Texas took home 10 of the Top 50 spots. Other Lone Star State entrants include Two Bros. of San Antonio (#48), Corkscrew BBQ in Spring (#32), Kreuz Market in Lockhart (#29), Cattleback Barbeque in Dallas (#11), Tejas Chocolate + Barbecue in Tomball (#8), Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor (#3) and Snow’s BBQ in Lexington (#2).
