Hatch chiles have been an Austin favorite for more than two decades.
Central Market and Whole Foods both launched celebrations of this New Mexican chile more than two decades ago, and though Whole Foods' Hatch-centric activities have waned in recent years, Central Market's 24th annual festival continues through August 20.
Two Austin locations of Sprouts, the one at 6920 Manchaca Road and the one in Round Rock at 110 IH-35 North, will host Hatch-roasting events this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that will continue on Saturday and Sunday through Sept. 8.
Many local grocery stores carry specialty Hatch products, baked goods, frozen foods and even sushi this time of year. At Sprouts and Central Market, you can buy the peppers by the pound or by the case.
