Almost a year after McGuire Moorman Hospitality announced that it had purchased the iconic Sweetish Hill Bakery, the prolific group has officially opened the revamped version under the banner Swedish Hill (1120 W. Sixth St.).

The all-day bakery and cafe has multiple components, with McGuire Moorman director of baking and pastry Alex Manley and chef Jennifer Tucker overseeing a comprehensive bakery program that includes bagels; sweet and savory pastries; bread; pies; and, holding with tradition, cakes. The bakery has previewed Swedish Hill’s offerings with Saturday bake sales in the months leading up to the reopening of the expanded and updated space.

The cafe serves cold and hot menus, as well as prepared foods, under the guidance of chef Page Pressley, formerly a partner at elite Austin restaurant Emmer & Rye. See the menu below.

McGuire Moorman co-founder and native Austinite Larry McGuire last year pointed to the business models and offerings of Gjelina in Los Angeles and Russ & Daughters in New York City as inspirations for the concept that expanded on the bakery Jim Murphy had owned since 1990.

Patricia Bauer-Slate and Tom Neuhaus originally opened the business at 14th and Waller streets in 1975. It relocated to its current Clarksville-area location in the late 1970s.
