Here's what's going on in the Live Music Capital of the World this week.

OUR TOP PICKS

Friday: Amy Lavere & Will Sexton at Cactus Cafe and Waterloo Records. The marriage of Austin music fixture Sexton to Memphis bassist and singer-songwriter LaVere a few years ago resulted in Sexton’s relocation to her home base. But it also meant we still get frequent visits from both of them. Sexton produced LaVere’s new album, “Painting Blue,” due out Aug. 16 on the Austin label Nine Mile Records; they’ll play a couple of pre-release gigs on this day, starting with a 5 p.m. free in-store at Waterloo (600 N. Lamar Blvd.) before heading to an 8:30 p.m. show at the Cactus ($12-$15, 2247 Guadalupe St., cactuscafe.org). — P.B.

Saturday: Mary J. Blige, Nas at Austin360 Amphitheater. This show offers cool throwback vibes to help ’90s hip-hop heads weather the mid-summer heat. Rap superstar Nas and the torch bearer of the New Jack Swing era, Mary J. Blige, hit the road together for a joint headline tour that promoters promise will include a “stacked setlist of songs spanning both of their careers.” $27-$160.99. 8 p.m. 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd. austin360amphitheater.com. — D.S.S.

Saturday: Carly Rae Jepsen at ACL Live. There was a brief moment during the “Call Me Maybe” era when it seemed like the Canadian pop savant might be a one-hit wonder. Well, she showed you, haters. Two hot-selling and critically acclaimed collections of candy synth jams later, Jepsen is at the top of her genre. Her new album “Dedicated,” written after a difficult breakup, wraps introspective lyricism in summery earworms like “Party For One,” a defiant ode to single life that’s also a dance-floor sizzler. Phoebe Ryan opens. $39-$40. 8 p.m. 310 Willie Nelson Blvd. acl-live.com. — D.S.S.

Wednesday: Blues on the Green with Sweet Spirit, Soul Man Sam at Zilker Park. It’s last call for free tunes in Zilker Park, friends. Austin City Limits Radio closes out its popular summer music series with a performance from pop powerhouse Sweet Spirit. Known for their spectacular stage shows, the band has been on tour for most of the summer, so expect an extra tight set loaded with seductive riffs and singalong hooks. Local R&B/blues heavy Soul Man Sam opens. Free. Concert starts at 8 p.m., but organizers recommend early arrival to secure a good spot to spread out your blanket and set up lawn chairs. Limited parking is available on site for $15. Parking opens at 6 p.m. and event organizers recommend you purchase a pass online in advance, because it usually sells out. 2100 Barton Springs Road. acl-radio.com/blues19. — D.S.S.

Wednesday: Jim Lauderdale at Cactus Cafe. “From Another World” is the new Yep Roc Records release from Americana singer-songwriter Lauderdale, whose dozen-plus albums in the 2010s have made him more prolific than just about anyone outside the improbable late-career flourishing of Willie Nelson. It’s fitting, then, that Nelson’s recent right-hand man, producer Buddy Cannon, turns up as a co-writer on Lauderdale’s latest. $25-$30. 8:30 p.m. 2247 Guadalupe St. cactuscafe.org. — P.B.

Wednesday: BMI Songwriters in the Round at Saxon Pub. When the noted performance rights organization BMI opened an Austin office earlier this year, it opened the door for events to play up their raised Texas profile. Thus the new “BMI Saxon Songwriter Series,” which this time around features six writers across generations of the Austin scene: Monte Warden, Carson McHone, Graham Weber, Parker Chapin, Tyler McCollum and Austin Gilliam. The free show runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; stick around for an 8 p.m. ticketed show ($15-$20) featuring country stalwart Lee Roy Parnell and friends plus Gary P. Nunn. 1320 S. Lamar Blvd. thesaxonpub.com. — P.B.

Thursday: Los Texmaniacs featuring Flaco Jimenez at 04 Center. Fellow Grammy-winning acts from San Antonio, the conjunto group and the accordion ace were expected to team up as part of the recent Recording Academy Texas Chapter 25th-anniversary celebration at ACL Live, but Jimenez ended up not appearing. Good thing, then, to have another shot, as Jimenez is a legitimate living legend whose sound and style have helped define the blend of Texan and Mexican traditional musical styles across the decades. $28-$58. 8 p.m. 2701 S. Lamar Bvd. 04center.com. — P.B.
