Astronomy on Tap. You can explore the mysteries of the universe while keeping your feet firmly on the ground at this monthly event (while also drinking beer). Among the speakers this month is host Aaron Lee, who will talk about the formation and evolution of binary star systems for one last time before taking off to become a professor. Astronomy on Tap also will have trivia and telescopes so you can look for exciting objects in the night sky, weather permitting. 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. July 16. Free. Defining Women Dinner at Olamaie. This dinner series celebrates the women of Southern food. Each week, the top-rated restaurant takes inspiration for the feast from a different seminal, female-written cookbook and highlights a local farm to create a four-course menu with beverage pairings. Olamaie was built as an homage to five generations of Southern women, and the dinner series is an extension of that. Jeff Guinn at BookPeople. Texas author Guinn, a former investigative journalist, has written "Vagabonds: The Story of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison's Ten-Year Road Trip" and will talk about and sign it at this author appearance. "Vagabonds" chronicles the road trips that Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Harvey Firestone would take in the summer for a decade, examining the conditions of America's roadways to improve travel by car. 7 p.m. July 16. Tiki Tuesdays at Hotel San Jose. Summer means the return of one seasonal series to the South Congress hotel. Swing by the lounge every Tuesday in June, July and August for a cold drink (did someone say frosé?), chips and guacamole, and bask in the glorious surf tunes of Austin's favorite surf and psych band the Avocados. You'll have all summer to catch them play their smash hit, "Guacamole." Poolside Cinema: "The Getaway." The Line Austin has teamed up with Austin Film Society this summer for this series that brings screenings celebrating Texas cinema of the 1970s to the hotel's pool deck. This week's showing is of "The Getaway." Filmed across Texas, Sam Peckinpah’s classic on the run thriller stars Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw as lovers on the lam, trying to get to Mexico.
