July 19 features Luc Besson’s “The Fifth Element,” an vibrant, gorgeous hunk of sci-fi oddness starring Milla Jovovich, Bruce Willis, Chris Tucker (in a breakout performance) and Gary Oldman as the baddy with a weird accent. This movie could not owe more to the French comics artist Jean “Moebius” Giraud if it tried.

Look on July 26 for John Sayles’ “Brother from Another Planet” starring Joe Morton as an alien who arrives in 1984 New York. If you only know the great Mr. Morton from, say, “Scandal,” you should check this out. Why this isn’t always a double feature with “The Man Who Fell to Earth” is beyond me.
