It’s the world premiere of the newest work by Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally, who in “Immortal Longings” explores the rich history of the great Russian impresario Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev and his legendary Ballets Russes. The ballet company produced such revolutionary artists as Nijinsky, Stravinsky and Picasso, but it is the tempestuous relationship of Diaghilev and superstar dancer Vaslav Nijinsky in particular that “Immortal Longings” highlights. The drama highlights this relationship, showcasing how they revolutionized dance at the turn of the 20th century.

2. Lavelle White’s 90th birthday at C-Boy’s

The singer known fondly to her followers as simply “Miss Lavelle” plays most Sundays at Antone’s, but this July 3 gig at C-Boy’s is special. That’s the day the classic blues singer completes her 90th trip around the sun. She’ll be cruising toward the century mark from here on out, no doubt with many fans and friends in Austin’s music community on hand to help celebrate the occasion.  — Peter Blackstock

3. Driftwood Dinner Party: Collaboration Pairing Dinner

Chef Andrew Stiver of Vista Brewing’s grill and Vista brewmaster Pat Korn are joining forces with the team at Duchman Family Winery for a four-course pairing dinner featuring both Visa beers and Duchman wines. The menu includes the main course of crispy pork belly served with Duchman Roussanne and Vista Little Trinity Belgian Blonde Ale, among other dishes and drinks. Stiver often uses ingredients from nearby farms, including Vista's own 1-acre spread. 

4. Star Walk at the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve

REI hosts a night hike under the stars. A laser-guided tour of key constellations and notable nighttime objects makes this hike an evening experience you probably don't typically have. Participants will hike by headlamp and share the wonders of Wild Basin at night. Learning how to navigate trails in relative darkness and how to spot common constellations will make you feel right at home the next time you step outside after dark.
