It's been 10 years since Erin Flynn and Skip Connett started hosting kids ages 5 to 15 for a farm camp, where they learn how to care for livestock, harvest food and cook it.
They also learn how to make a camp, play outdoor games, swim and generally enjoy the outdoors for the week. The camp starts on June 24 and ($400, greengatefarms.net) is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for five days, with pre- and post-care available.
Green Gate Farms recently moved operations to its Bastrop farm while a new agrihood is being developed next to the property in East Austin, and this is the first year for the camp to take place at the riverside location. They are offering a discount for residents of Bastrop County for both the farm camp and the farm's community-supported agriculture program, which started in 2006 and has more than 14 pick-up sites around Austin and Bastrop.

If you're kids are really into cooking, there's still time to sign up for the 3-day kids' cooking camp at Silver Whisk Cooking School, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 15, 16 and 17. The camp ($150, silverwhiskcooking.com) is open to kids ages 5 to 14 and takes place at the East Austin Culinary Studio, 2100 Robert Browning St.
The kids' cooking classes at Faraday's Kitchen Store in Lakeway are sold out for the summer, but there are a few spots available at the many cooking camps offered at Foodie Kids, the kid-focused culinary center at 3818 Far West Blvd.
