University of Texas students and campus-area residents are in for a treat. Daniel and Miguel Cobos, who own Vaquero Taquero, one of the city’s best taco trailers, have opened a brick-and-mortar location near campus.
The owners, who grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and Monterey, Mexico, recently opened their taqeuria at 104 E. 31st St., a location some will remember as the original home of Fricano’s Deli. The taqueria serves a menu that includes fresh-from-the-trompo al pastor, bistec and nopales tacos, as well as quesadillas. The new restaurant is open for dinner from six to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Vaquero Taquero started as a push cart downtown three years ago before expanding to the popular truck that sits at 4301 Duval St. behind the Pronto Food Mart in Hyde Park. The food truck remains in operation for dinner Tuesday-Friday and breakfast and lunch on the weekends.
