Choose your own art adventure this weekend and the next. It’s time for West Austin Studio Tour.
WEST, as it’s commonly known, is a free, annual, self-guided art event that takes curious art lovers into the studio spaces of creators in West Austin. (If you’re familiar with East Austin Studio Tour, it’s the same idea.)
Put on by art collective Big Medium, this year’s tour runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and picks back up at the same times May 18-19. WEST includes five participant categories: artist studios, galleries, temporary exhibitions, happenings (which are scheduled events like performances and workshops) and libraries.

To get around WEST, event organizers recommend picking up a catalog with exhibitor information, images and a map. Find a catalog at Big Medium Gallery (916 Springdale Road) 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on either weekend of the tour or noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through May 17. You can also find a copy at the WEST group exhibition at Austin Community College’s Highland campus (6101 ACC Highland Campus Drive, Bldg. 4000) 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on either event weekend or noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through May 17.
This year, the tour also has a mobile app with a map and listings. Search “West Austin Studio Tour” in the Apple Store or Google Play.
The event kicks off with an opening party, Due West, 7-10 p.m. Friday at the ACC Highland campus. Tickets are $45 for general admission and $30 for Big Medium members.
