Sometimes, the best gift you can give someone you love is experiential — not a tangible object but an activity or an event that they won't easily forget. And boy, does Austin want to provide that.
In addition to Mother's Day brunches, there are a whole host of other Mother's Day-related events this weekend that you can take your mama to or, if you're a mom yourself, can attend to feel properly spoiled. Here's where to go around Austin for a memorable Mother's Day.
Dog Mom's Day at Yard Bar, 6700 Burnet Rd. Head to the combination dog park and restaurant for a DIY project that you and your pup will enjoy for a lifetime. Yard Bar will provide the paper and paints, as well as the Aperol Spritz you can sip on while crafting. RSVP in advance.
Fur Baby Mother's Day Festivities at Easy Tiger, 709 E. Sixth St. If you have a fur baby, you're a mom, too, and deserve to be both celebrated and taken care of. To that end, Easy Tiger's downtown beer garden hosts an all-day event featuring photo props and puppy treats, $4 Salty Dog cocktails and $4 Lavender 76s all day long. (Tito's will donate $1 per Salty Dog to local organization Emancipet.)
Mother's Day and Mimosas at Urban Axes, 812 Airport Blvd. How about a little axe-throwing to celebrate Mother's Day? Urban Axes hosts a special on Sunday: $25 per person gets you an hour of axe throwing and your first mimosa "to help you get in bullseye form." Otherwise, it's BYOB.
Mother's Day at the Drafthouse, 5701 W. Slaughter Lane Bldg. F. Nobody puts your mom in a corner. Take her out to the Alamo Drafthouse for a fun Mother’s Day brunch screening of "Dirty Dancing." A themed brunch menu is included in the cost of the $38.66 ticket.
Mother's Day Brunch and Polo at Two Wishes Ranch, 454 Hobby Horse Rd., Lockhart. This is no ordinary Mother's Day brunch with the Lockhart ranch hosting the U.S. Polo Association Women’s Challenge Tournament. Moms can eat while watching the polo match ($40) or even sign up for an introductory polo lesson ($70) to be given at a later date, no riding experience necessary. Families can also bring a picnic and watch the polo tournament for $15.
Mother's Day Concert at the Texas State Capitol, 1100 Congress Ave. Treat Mom to a concert playing in her honor on the south steps of the Capitol. The Austin Symphonic Band will play lively marches, movie music and original band compositions starting at 7 p.m. The concert is free to attend.
Moms Eat Free at Pluckers Wing Bar, all locations. Moms don't just get a discount on their meal — they eat completely free and can order an entree, side and nonalcoholic beverage (up to a $15 value) without having to pay a cent. The deal runs all day.
We Heart Moms at Blue Owl Brewing, 2400 E. Cesar Chavez St. If having local beer sounds like the right way to celebrate a day all about you, head to the East Austin brewery focused on sour beers. Your Mother's Day tasting experience is complimentary during taproom hours, 12 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, although it's not clear what a "tasting experience" entails.
Wild Spirit Mother's Day at Desert Door, 211 Darden Hill Rd., Driftwood. Take a day trip on Mother's Day to treat your mom and family to an afternoon of sotol cocktails, complimentary Casey's New Orleans Snowballs, live music and shopping at local artisan pop-ups on the Desert Door patio. The 2 to 5 p.m. event on Sunday is free to attend.
