If Terlingua is the national championship of chili, then an upcoming cook-off in Marble Falls is its Rose Bowl.

That's according to the organizers of the 48th annual Howdy-Roo Chili Cook-Off, which is taking place on May 4 at Johnson Park in downtown Marble Falls, where more than 175 chili cooks are expected. According to CASI, Chili Appreciation Society International, which certifies the famed Terlingua chili cook-off and countless others, that makes this the third-largest chili competition in the world.

This chili cook-off, which is a qualifier for Terlingua's event in November, is happening alongside the Lonestar BBQ society’s annual state barbecue championship, so they'll need lots of judges to taste all of the entries. It's a free event, but there is a fee to compete. You can find out details here.
