GQ yesterday released its list of the Best New Restaurants in America. The publication circled back today with a list of eight of the best dishes restaurant editor Brett Martin ate last year from restaurant's that didn't make yesterday's list. I guess you could consider it a de facto runners-up list. Making the short list was Austin brewery-restaurant hybrid The Brewer's Table. The restaurant combines cooking and brewing in interesting ways (to steal a headline from my own review). It can be informative and cool to know exactly how that cross pollination occurs, but you don't have to know all the details to know something tastes good, as Martin explains with his inclusion of the East Austin restaurant's rabbit carnitas.

Of the dish, Martin writes the following: "It's not always clear how beer works its way into the dishes at this relaxed restaurant whose high concept is to blur the lines between brewing and cooking. But with dishes like these rabbit morsels and fermented mushrooms waiting to be tucked into warm tortillas and drizzled with a pig blood mole, who really cares?"

Head to for the complete list of stellar bites that made an impression on Martin last year.
