Already in East Austin and on South Congress Avenue, Bennu Coffee will open a third 24-hour location in a different part of town — a mixed-use development on the grounds of the former Highland Mall.
The sprawling 3,500 sq. ft. of space at the new Fivetwo apartment complex promises organic fair-trade coffee, fresh-baked pastries and grab-and-go snacks from local vendors once it opens in late 2019 or early 2020. It'll be 1,000 sq. ft. larger than the two previous locations, but customers will recognize the cafe, serving goods from Russell's Bakery and other area purveyors, as distinctly part of the Bennu brand.
The new cafe's mix of modern and eclectic design elements — with green walls similar to those at the two other shops — is being designed by Jordan Michael Designs.
Owners Steve and Stephanie Williams are excited to expand into the burgeoning neighborhood off Airport Boulevard, where Austin Community College's 1.3 million sq. ft. campus is located, according to a press release. Bennu at Highland, like the other two cafes, will serve coffee from Texas Coffee Traders with drinks that include Bennu's signature Cold Brew (did you know it was the original inspiration for the popular Chameleon Cold-Brew?).
The first location of Bennu Coffee opened on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in 2009. The Williams then took over the former Dominican Joe's space at Riverside Drive and South Congress Avenue in 2017.
Fivetwo Highland and the upcoming Bennu are located at 109 Jacob Fontaine Ln. For more information, visit bennucoffee.com.
