Austin can never get enough quality Tex-Mex. And popular Austin-born chef and restaurateur Shawn Cirkiel likely knows that as well as anyone.
The owner of Parkside has partnered with friend, chef and restaurateur Chris Martinez to open ¡Vamonos! this week in the space formerly occupied by Cirkiel’s Spanish restaurant, Bullfight (4807 Airport Blvd.).
Martinez, a Round Rock native and veteran of Landry’s, Mi Cocina, El Arroyo, and Taco Diner, developed a menu “inspired by the shared foods of Texas vaqueros and cowboys, traditional favorites and flavors from a wood-burning grill” made with hormone-free products and locally-sourced ingredients whenever available. The concept sounds not terribly dissimilar from Chavez, the ranch-style Tex-Mex spot Cirkiel briefly ran at the Radisson.
Menu items include queso blanco con carne, Original Nachos Ignacio (whole fried small corn tortillas with refried beans, queso blanco, pico de gallo, and pickled jalapeños), taco salad, pork carnitas, and oak-grilled fajitas. The bar menu, naturally, will put an emphasis on Mexican beer and tequila. View the complete menu here.
